HAIN Ventures FAQ
Why HAIN Ventures: There is digital health interest and entrepreneurial talent in the UPenn/Philly area. Through talks & surveys we found that there is a dearth of well-coordinated, non-dilutive support for students working on digital health startup ideas, resulting in poor design, reduced morale, and/or delay in impact. Given the lengthy adoption process of healthcare IT solutions, and the complex regulatory/legal and organizational landscape they must navigate, founders will benefit from early engagement with clinical end users, potential customers, and expert advisors.
What is HAIN Ventures program: We thus formed HAIN Ventures program, a 10-week incubator program dedicated to supporting student founders of promising early-stage digital health startups (focused more on software than hardware) in the UPenn/Philly area. Our goal is to help connect founders with resources and people that will accelerate their preparation to successfully raise a seed round funding. The Program will work primarily through 4 events and weekly check-ins, with additional activities tailored to each founder's week-to-week needs. After the initial 10-week period ending with a Demo Day, we will continue to provide support & community to founders, albeit in a more unstructured way.
Which companies will HAIN Ventures be supporting in Spring 2019: We support digital health startups whose founders are based in UPenn/Philly area, are committed to commercializing the venture, and are ready to test & validate their product concept/prototype for customer engagement over the next semester.
